Five hundred bottles is the size people quote when they want a real cellar and a tasting spot. An 8 ft cube is 512 ft3. An 8 by 10 by 8 room is 640 ft3. Both sit under the 900 ft3 APEX 3500 rating when the envelope is honest. The old 5 ft by 5 ft equals 500 bottles line assumes dense racking and almost no aisle. If you want to stand in the room, you have more cubic feet than that slogan. Measure the aisle you actually want.
Stay on 3500 unless glass or insulation says otherwise. A glass door is about +15%. A glass wall is a different room. Below R-20, fix the envelope. Upsizing a leaky box is how you buy a 5000 and still miss 55F. The model number is a BTU class, not a bottle class. APEX 5000 is not the 500-bottle unit. It is the 4,462 BTU cabinet for rooms near 1,200 ft3.
Developers use 400 to 800 bottles as the amenity conversation. Cooling is 15 to 25% of a custom cellar package. Name who holds the warranty before drywall. The cabinet still needs a conditioned mechanical space. An HOA closet that hits 90F in August is not a location. Multi-unit bids belong in Pro with a quantity, not on a public product page.
Install is the same sequence as a smaller room, with longer ducts if the mechanical room is farther away. Keep combined supply and return inside the ductwork guide. Dedicated 15A. Sloped drain. Licensed HVAC. Commission with the door closed and the lights you will actually use. Display lighting is a load. Leave it on during the 55F check if that is how the room will be shown.
Racking density is the other fork. Warehouse-style rows in a tight 400 ft3 box can hold 500 bottles on 3500 without drama. A tasting table, two glass faces, and a 9 ft ceiling can push the same bottle count toward 700 ft3 and a harder glass load. Those are different rooms that share a search term.
Commissioning at 500 bottles is where lighting and glass get honest. Leave the display lights on. Close the glass door. Read 55F away from the supply grille. If the room only holds when the lights are off, you undersized the envelope or you ignored a load. Fix that before you order a larger cabinet.
Put the real dimensions in the BTU calculator. If it returns 3500, order 3500. If it returns 5000, look at glass and insulation first. The 500-bottle label is not a model code. US fulfillment is direct. There is no public US installer map.

Questions at 500 bottles
Does a 500-bottle cellar need APEX 5000 because of the name?
No. Model numbers are BTU class, not bottle class. 3500 covers about 900 ft3. Most 500-bottle rooms are under that if the envelope is honest.
What if the amenity has a glass wall?
Treat it as a different room. Size after glass area. You may land on 5000, or you may need to reduce glass. Do not hide a wall unit in the glass.
Is a 5 ft by 5 ft room really 500 bottles?
Only with dense racking and almost no aisle. A tasting room at 500 bottles is larger. Measure the room you are building, not the slogan.
