Two hundred bottles is where homeowners, owner-builders, and small wine walls meet. The room is large enough to look like a cellar and small enough that people still try to size it from a bottle catalog. Size the box. A 6 ft by 6 ft by 8 ft room is 288 ft3. The new-home default we use in Pro is 6 ft 4 in by 6 ft 4 in by 10 ft, about 400 ft3. That room holds 200 bottles with room to grow toward 400 if the racking is honest.

APEX 3500 covers about 900 ft3 on an honest envelope. A 400 ft3 glass-door room sits comfortably on 3500. The load that surprises people is the door. Custom metal with clear glass is about +15%. A display wall with a long glass face is not a door. Measure glass area and put it in the BTU calculator. If the wall is mostly glass, you are no longer on a 200-bottle nickname. You are on a glazed room.

Hospitality uses this count for a 200 to 400 bottle wall. Kitchen heat and dining-room noise change the job even when the bottle count matches a house. Put the cabinet in a conditioned back-of-house room. Do not copy a house BTU number onto a pass. Confirm any commercial rule for R-290 in that space. A tasting pass next to a range is a different ambient problem than a basement cellar.

Owner-builders often lock the door before they lock the cooling. Reverse that if you can. The door type changes glass load, the mechanical room changes duct length, and the circuit has to exist before drywall. Dedicated 15A, insulated supply high and return low, sloped drain, 50-77F at the cabinet. Commission to 55F with the glass door closed. The installation guide is the sequence.

If your room matches that 6 ft 4 in cube, start there, then confirm with the calculator. If your room is a wine wall in an open kitchen, do not use the house preset. Measure glass and heat.

Questions at 200 bottles

Is 200 bottles an APEX 3500 or 5000?

3500 for an honest 300 to 400 ft3 room with a glass door. 5000 if you have a glass wall, a weak envelope, or a hospitality load next to a kitchen.

Does the new-home 6 ft 4 in room fit 200 bottles?

Yes, with standard racking, and you still have room to grow toward 400. Cooling is still 3500 class if the envelope is honest.

Can a restaurant copy a house 200-bottle size?

Not blindly. Kitchen heat, door traffic, and local R-290 rules change the job. Measure the pass and the mechanical room separately.
