Installation Checklist
APEX Installation Checklist
Pre-installation and installation checkpoints for APEX cooling systems.
1
Space & Ductwork
Wall Openings
- Two 6" x 12" wall openings are installed on opposite sides of the cellar to generate effective cross-flow:
- Supply Air: High on the wall
- Return Air: Low on the wall
Mechanical Room Access
- Adequate space nearby to house the cooling unit
- Ventilation in the room is sufficient to dissipate heat
Ductwork Requirements
- Ducts (e.g., 8" supply and 8" return) are planned with:
- Maximum of 25 feet per duct (50 feet total combined)
- Smooth, gradual bends (avoid sharp turns)
- Ducts will be insulated to prevent condensation and minimize noise
2
Electrical & Drainage
Dedicated Electrical Circuit
- A dedicated circuit is available for the unit:
- Typically 115V/20A (or 120V/15A, based on your specific unit requirements)
- No GFCI outlet is used
Drain Access
- A drain is located within 15 inches of the unit, or a condensate pump is planned if farther away
- Ensure proper drain line installation with a slight slope and no blockages
3
Cellar Construction & Insulation
Insulation Standards
- Walls: Minimum R20 insulation
- Ceiling: R20–R30 insulation
- Floor: Minimum R20 insulation (if the cellar isn't in a basement)
Vapor Barrier
- A vapor barrier is installed on the warm side of the walls/ceiling
Floor & Door Considerations
- There are no heated floors, or a 12-inch gap is maintained if present
- The cellar door has proper seals; note that glass doors may need additional insulation
4
Ambient Conditions
Mechanical Room Temperature
- The room housing the unit maintains an ambient temperature between 50°F and 77°F (10°C to 25°C)
Humidity Control
- The cellar area is not prone to high humidity, reducing the risk of mold and system strain
5
Installation Preparation
Unit Handling
- The cooling unit must be kept in an upright position, with the compressor at the bottom, for at least 24 hours before installation
